Our TTT staff are Registered Maine Guides, and our number one priority as Guides is to ensure a safe, transformational and FUN experience for all our participants. All our Guides and Guide-in-Training are passionate about sharing their love of the outdoors and creating a meaningful community that supports teens in emotional intelligence, problem solving, communication skills, resilience, self-awareness, self-confidence and a love and respect for the earth. We support and encourage self-directed learning and hands-on, project-based activities as participants follow their unique strengths. Teens build self-awareness and resilience by incrementally pushing past comfort zones in a supportive community. All of our wilderness experience will foster teamwork, creative problem solving, communication and resilience.
Through The Trees will provide a detailed gear lists prior to each trip.
Teen Wilderness trips are recommended for teens who are open to new things and are ready to step out of their comfort zone.
Wilderness trips will be held rain or shine.

After we meet at Through the Trees in Freeport, we will travel as a group to Swan's Falls in Fryeburg where will begin our 11 mile journey along the Saco River. There will be plenty of time to learn the basics of canoeing in a supportive environment on slow moving water. Along the way from campsite to campsite we will have plenty time to allow for playful stops along the river and time at our campsites to explore. It’s sure to be a blast! Teens do not have to have any prior paddling or camping experience to join us on this trip however they should be able to manage their own gear and a be willing to learn and help manage the aspect of daily life in the wilderness.

Read moreAn epic adventure awaits! Our journey begins at the start of the International Appalachian Trail in the Katahdin Woods and Water National Monument where we will hike for three days, traversing two moderate sized mountains and roughly 20 miles of trail. We will then meet up with Packraft Maine and start the next leg of our journey that same afternoon. During this second part of the week we will make our way down part of the East Branch of the Penobscot River. Along our way we will experience a portion of the river that Thoreau and his Wabanaki guide once traveled in 1857. The paddling section will include portages around major waterfalls but we will see some Class II rapids that we will navigate safely alongside our packraft guide, Alex. Most of the paddling will be Class I, moving flat water which will be perfect for (hopefully) wildlife spotting.
This trip is great for teens ages 14-17 who are looking for a challenging and exciting wilderness expedition. Teens should have the ability to hike with a 40 pound pack and have had previous camping and hiking experience as we will be carrying all our gear to support us for five days in the wild. As with all our trips we invite everyone to help create a supportive community environment by participating in meal prep/clean up, group gear carry and to embrace the Leave No Trace principles.
An email will be sent to participants with packing list and exact times of departure and arrival in Freeport.
