OAK
Wilderness Proficiency * Leadership * Project-Based Learning
Full Day Nature Immersion Program for Ages 14-17
September through May, Mondays 9:30am to 3:00pm

ABOUT OAK
Many of our Oak participants have been with Through the Trees for several years and are ready to bring together all that they have learned and experienced. In our Oak cohort, teens take on the role of planning and executing projects and nature trips, from start to finish. Teens who are joining TTT for the first time will be able to draw upon their own life experiences, while also learning and strengthening skills. Working as a team will mean bringing individual strengths together to support the group's objectives. Oak hones in on the Root Value of responsibility, as teens take on what is often the Guide's roll in younger cohorts. Our Guides provide support as teens work together to complete three scheduled projects over nine months. Teens will organize gear and food, conduct site work, assign tasks and plan and manage a weekly schedule. There may be off-site trips to nearby locations such as Florida Lake or Hedgehog Mountain. Projects include*:
- Perimeter Trail and Remote Site Creation with November Campout
- Winterizing Remote Site and Winter Campout in February
- Break Down Remote Site for Leave No Trace and Plan Canoe Trip for May
Activities such as our daily Sit Spot practice build mindfulness while encouraging a deep reverence for the natural world. Oak has approximately a 12:1 Teen to Staff ratio with a maximum of 12 kids. Two Guides will be present for all overnights.
The program will be outdoors, rain, snow or shine unless weather is extreme and potentially dangerous (such as high winds, low wind chill, low temps and steady rain, or unsafe driving conditions), which may result in cancellation.
Oak runs on Mondays from 9:30am to 3:00pm for the school year.

*Projects may change depending on weather and group needs.
